Japan wants to go to the moon before 2030 – science

Japan wants to get its own astronauts on the moon in the second half of this decade.

This was stated in a satellite plan that was finally approved on Tuesday during consultation with Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, among others, state broadcaster NHK reported.

“In the second half of the 2020s, we want to realize the landing of Japanese astronauts on the moon,” Kishida said. It’s been known for some time that Japan is eyeing a manned landing on the moon, but this is the first time the country has set a specific deadline.

It was also decided that Japan would participate in NASA’s Artemis program and that it would develop equipment for the lunar station and transport vehicles on the lunar surface.

The high-tech Asian country had previously said it would use hydrogen extracted from ice deposits on the moon as rocket fuel. A fuel plant could be built in Antarctica by 2035
