As a true winter sports fan, you are always looking for an option to wear your skis. It may seem strange at this time of year, but there are still many ski areas open in June! In the warmer months you should look high in Europe, on the glaciers. You can even travel to the other side of the world for winter sports where the skiing season starts.
Open ski areas in the Alps
At this time of year you can only ski in a few glacier ski areas in the Alps. The offer in these ski areas is limited and sometimes the lifts are only open for certain hours or on weekends. Travel further for winter sports
June is the opening month for many winter sports areas in the Southern Hemisphere. In countries like Argentina, Chile, the South American Andes, Australia and New Zealand, if all conditions are right, the ski season will start this month. In Australia, the season usually starts on the second Monday in June. It is celebrated with the king’s birthday and the beginning of winter. Most ski resorts open on this special day regardless of snow conditions. The first ski resorts in New Zealand are expected to open in early June. Well-known ski areas in New Zealand: Mount Hutt (open from June 9) and Coronet Peak (open from June 16).
If the winter is warm enough, you can ski in the Andes in South America in June. Well-known ski areas in Argentina: Catral (open from June 10) and Las Leñas (open from June 17). Want to ski in Chile in June? Then you can go to the ski resorts: Valle Nevado (open from June 23) and Portillo (open from June 16).
Skiing in North America in June
The 2022/2023 ski season in North America is far from over yet. Some ski resorts remain open as long as snow permits. For example, the same applies to the Palisades Tahoe ski area, where lifts will operate until July 4, according to the ski resort’s official website.

Ski to Asia in June
In Asia, most ski resorts close in June, but you can get down to Japan’s Kazan. The ski season here probably lasts until the end of July. This is due to heavy snowfall in March. Whether the ski resort is actually open all month is still a question. There is some melting in the area now.
