Gymnasts are demanding $1 billion from the FBI in the case of American doctor Nassar

American gymnasts are demanding $1 billion (930 million euros) over the FBI’s failure in the case of former American doctor Larry Nassar. They believe the CIA has not done enough to stop Nassar. This allowed him to continue abusing girls for about another year.

The victim group consists of about 90 gymnasts, including four-time Olympic champion Simone Biles. Also among them are Ali Raisman and McKayla Maroney, both Olympic gold medalists, says the law firm she represents.

In 2015, USA Gymnastics raised the alarm in a local division of the FBI when three players reported being abused by Nassar. The US Department of Justice concluded that the security service did nothing about it.

A year later, the newspaper The Indianapolis Star abuse scandal. The article stated that federal investigators had not made any contact with the gymnasts after their advance, much to the chagrin of those involved. Later that year, Nassar was arrested.

In a 2021 report, Department of Justice Inspector Michael Horowitz concluded that the action had been taken improperly. For example, he wrote that the FBI in Indianapolis “did not respond with the utmost seriousness and urgency to the allegations against Nassar.”

Nassar has been a team physician with the US Olympic gymnastics team in the past. He was sentenced to 175 years in prison for mistreatment of American gymnasts.
