Golfer Manon de Roy after first match win: “It opens more doors” | Golf

Manon de Roy broke this spell last weekend: he won his first match on the European tour. “It’s definitely a leap,” the golfer says. “I have a taste now. I want to win more. The United States is also a target.”

“I had to wait a long time”

On Saturday Manon de Roy recorded his first match victory on the European tour, a day later he drew attention at Ringwen’s golf course, where he finished the men’s Southell Open (DP World Tour). “It’s a wonderful feeling. I had to wait a long time for it. I was close to it a few times.”

De Roin’s goal on the European tour this season was a success. In early May, she had already finished third at the Madrid Ladies Open, and has now picked it up faster than she expected.

The sweet taste of success makes it clear that you want more. De Roy, 30, told Sportza, “I’m got a taste now, so I want to win more matches.” And she made another call. “At the end of May I will play in a tournament in Belgium. I hope everyone will come and see.”

I can play in the Majors now. I have to revisit my agenda, but I do it with great pleasure.

“It’s definitely a leap and it still opens doors. I can now play in the majors (major golf tournaments). I have to review my schedule, but I’m happy to do that.”

De Roy collected several points through his win. “I’m now about 60 places ahead in the world rankings, which is a big step. But I have no goal in my head when it comes to rankings.”

“It would be nice to get into the top 100 in a day, but this time I’m going to continue to play my game and see where I end up. I do not care about those rankings, it’s very important for the 2024 Olympics. Paris.”

“America is definitely a target, and I want to measure myself against the best.”

De Roy is not only advancing in the world rankings, but is also ranked 3rd in the European tour rankings. “There are advantages to my place in that rankings,” De Roy explains.

“For example, this year I wanted to try to qualify for the LPGA, the American professional round. For that you have to survive in 3 qualifying rounds. But if I’m in the top 10 in the European rankings, I’ll only play. Last qualifying round.”

“It will relieve some stress because such qualifications are always very stressful. I hope I can go straight to that final qualifying round and then see what I can achieve there.”

De Roy has set his sights on LPGA. “America is definitely a target. I want to measure myself with the best in the world.” It’s not obvious. “The atmosphere on the European tour is very friendly. I have a lot of friends there too. I see how it goes and I feel good in the United States.”
