In July last year, Libby Sinden accepted the challenge of jumping off the fifteen-meter Devil’s Bridge in Kirkby Lonsdale. One of her friends filmed the stunt. The photos show that Sinden immediately realized something was wrong. “You hurt my back,” she shouted.

The girl managed to float to the side under her strength. However, the suffering there continued for more than three hours. The emergency services have taken this long to get her out of the water in a safe and responsible manner. This was followed by a six-hour surgery to push the necessary rods and screws into her spine. Sinden had to learn to walk again and could move in a wheelchair for only four months.

I often saw people jumping off that bridge, even children. “There was no problem,” says the woman. When I was ready I felt a mixture of adrenaline, nervousness and fear. It felt like I was hitting a stone wall with full force.”

One of its vertebrae looked cracked. A portion of her bone also entered directly through the spinal canal, putting pressure on her kidney. Sinden realizes he “was about to be paralyzed”.

Sinden is still grappling with the consequences a year after the facts. , I still had to go to the physiotherapist for a long time, because I was still in pain. I am no longer allowed to walk or any other forms of vigorous exertion. My friends and relatives have been very supportive, but my biggest motivation came from having my dog ​​Sahara. My main goal was to be able to walk and play with her again.”
