Four Boxing Matches We Can’t Wait to See in 2022

We’ve already seen some great boxing matches, and we’re a few months to the end of this year. However, there are still matches we can’t wait to see to end the year. Let’s break down the four most anticipated boxing matches to watch in 2022.

Anthony Joshua vs Oleksandr Usyk II

The heavyweight title match between Joshua and Usyk is scheduled for August 20th, 2022, in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, and is already getting boxing predictions. Usyk is a unified heavyweight champion of the world who took many people by surprise after defeating Joshua unanimously in London, England.

Joshua has to bear losing in his hometown. Many boxing fans can’t wait for the rematch in Jeddah. Joshua has called Usyk a simple problem in his journey to becoming an undisputed champion again. However, the Ukrainian fighter is the people’s favourite for the rematch.

Everyone is looking to see Joshua’s improvements that’ll see the final results in his favour. His opponent seems to be comfortably in control, and Joshua predicted an early knockout. However, we’ll have to wait and see if things turn out as he expects. There’s no doubt that this will be among the biggest matches of the year.

Andy Ruiz Jr vs Luiz Ortiz

The highly anticipated match between Andy Ruiz Jr, a former heavyweight champion and Luis Ortiz, a former WBA heavyweight champion, is coming up. This thrilling match is set for September 4th, 2022, in Los Angeles, California.

In June 2019, Ruiz shocked many people after defeating Anthony Joshua. After six months, he was outmatched in a rematch. This left him with a knee injury that led to his 18 months break from the sport.

Afterwards, Ruiz transformed tremendously. He lost about 60 pounds after training with Eddy Reynoso, who also trained Saul Canelo Alvarez. Ruiz has told reporters his intentions to get back on top in the heavyweight division to fight people like Wilder and Fury again.

He has a lot to do. Despite the win against Chris Arreola, he was obviously in poor shape. Though, Ruiz admitted to only being at 60% throughout the fight. He seemed to have improved during the match victory against Arreola despite the knockout at the beginning of the fight.

The first against Ortiz will prove whether he made appropriate changes. Ruiz is 43 years old and among the world’s greatest heavyweight boxers. In November 2020, he sent Alexander Fores packing in just 45 seconds.

He also triumphed over Charles Martin during the sixth round. Although Ruiz is likely to dominate the headlines, the match will reveal whether it’ll end Andy Ruiz’s career to join the ranks of heavyweight boxing champions.

Jake Paul vs Tommy Fury

Jake Paul, a popular social media personality cum professional boxer, is slated to fight Tommy Fury. This is likely to be one of the most anticipated matches in 2022. Fans look forward to seeing Jake in the boxing ring and how he’ll fare against Fury, a brother to Tyson Fury, a boxer.

Fury has more boxing credentials compared to Jake. The match was scheduled to occur on August 6th, 2022, at Madison Square Garden in NY, but it was cancelled. However, the new date for the match is yet to be announced by the organisers.

Boxing fans last saw Jake in the ring in December 2011 against Tyron Woodley, a former UFC champion. Jake stopped him with a brutal knockout. The fight against Fury, who acquired the art of boxing from his legendary father, John Fury, is likely to be very interesting.

Jake’s last fight was supposed to be a faceoff against Fury, but Woodley was introduced at the last minute to be the opponent for the fight. Fury pulled out because of an injury and illness.

The fan’s favourite during this match is Fury, given his lifelong background and experience. Everyone is looking to see whether Jake will prove them wrong.

Canelo Alvarez vs Gennady Golovkin III

Come September 17th, Alvarez and Golovkin are sent to battle in the USA. This is the last anticipated match for 2022 on our list. Alvarez is a four-time weight class champion, while Golovkin has been a world champion multiple times. This is one of the biggest ones to be looking forward to.
