Residents of the affluent American town of Hillsborough, near San Francisco, are upset about the real Flintstones house: a house built entirely in the style of the animated series of the same name. Locals want the owner to remove life-size dinosaurs and dolls from her garden, but the judge has decided that Fred and Wilma can stay for the time being.
It’s a lengthy lawsuit brought by the municipality against the homeowner, Florence Fang. Fang has lived in the house since 2017. The Aesthetics Committee thinks it goes too far with the decorations around her house, writes Di San Francisco Chronicle.
In the end, Fang is the one who pulls the longest. She reached a settlement with the municipality allowing her to leave her photos. She also receives compensation of 125,000 dollars (more than 100,000 euros). From now on, Fang would have to apply for a permit if she wanted to make a major change to her garden.
The Flintstones house has been there since 1976. Fang bought it in 2017 for $2.8 million (€2.3 million), because she wanted to make it her own “happy place.” Then she decorated her garden with the theme of the animated series. According to her, statues of dinosaurs belong to the Flintstones.
Yaba Dibba Do!
When Fang placed in her garden in large letters the slogan “Yabba Dabba Doo!” The municipality took her to court. The indictment called her home an “insult to good taste” and “repugnant.”
Then Fang sued the municipality again. In her view, she was discriminated against on the basis of her origin. Because of the settlement now reached, Fang should drop this charge.
