Electronic Arts has ordered GOG.com to remove four of its games from the Play Store. These are Ultima Underworld 1 + 2, Syndicate Plus, and Syndicate Wars. The latter will not soon be available new digitally.
“We would like to inform you that, at the request of the publisher, these games will no longer be available on our play store from Monday, June 28.” GOG . says In the brief announcement of the change. Electronic Arts is the publisher of all four games. Games and game collection are currently discounted and cost €1.29 each.
Both parts of Ultima Underworld and the first guild can be found in Origin, EA’s online store. As far as the availability of these games is concerned, there are fewer than that, but the question is to what extent these versions are the same. GOG not only makes games available but also makes them playable on many different operating systems and devices. It’s also DRM-free in GOG and even integrates fan-made patches into games if needed. GOG talked about the process of “restoring” old games in documentary, produced by Nucleb Corporation, in 2018.
In addition to Syndicate Wars, Syndicate’s American Revolt expansion is not for sale on Origin. EA may bring the missing game and the expansion to Origin at a later date. Nothing is known about this at the moment. At least I have Kotaku EA Comment requestNo response has been received at the time of writing this report.
