Democratic candidate Katie Hobbs won the Arizona gubernatorial election. Hobbs beats Republican rival and Trump ally Carrie Lake.
The loss of Lake, a former host and rising star of the “Make America Great Again” movement, is another blow to Donald Trump, who today may announce his candidacy for the 2024 presidential election. Lake believed that the 2020 presidential election was not won by Biden, but by Trump, It is a claim for which there was no evidence.
Prominent members of the Republican Party also urged Arizona voters not to vote for Lake. Liz Cheney, a well-known critic of Trump and daughter of former Vice President Dick Cheney, has done so, among others.
She was criticized by Lake, who sarcastically thanked Cheney in a letter for a television advertisement urging voters to ignore Lake. According to Lake, this would only have resulted in more donations to her campaign.

Fight for the majority in the House of Representatives
Arizona was once a majority Republican state, but that has changed in recent history. Hobbs succeeds Republican Governor Doug Ducey, who was unable to run for re-election.
The battle for control of the House of Representatives, the lower house of the US Congress, has not yet been formally resolved. Republicans need at least 218 of the 435 seats in order to claim the majority. The party needs an extra seat.
