Where the CPAC conservative convention used to be a true spectacle for seeing the future of American conservatives, this year it has essentially become the “Trump convention.” So says the American Raymond Means.

Donald Trump is one of the few major candidates present at the convention. “Especially in years when you have a presidential election, you see who’s interesting and who stands out. That’s not really going to happen this year, because only Donald Trump is one of the keynote speakers,” Mines remarks.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis canceled the conservative convention. “This suggests that this has become a bit of a Trump conference.” But political junkies will have to wait until the climax. Trump will not be discussed until the final day, next Sunday. He has been appearing here since 2011. And then it became already clear that people are crazy about him. From then on, he began to think more seriously about the presidency.

Nikki Haley

The only other Conservative candidate present in Congress is Nikki Haley, the former UN envoy under Trump. But she could eventually become Trump’s sidekick. She also applied for it.

The fact that there were hardly any significant Tory politicians present detracted from the conference’s avant-garde image. Traditional conservatives think it’s funny, too. Means explains that they now think it is a joke. “Most of the party is now made up of Trumpists, but the traditional wing, which also includes Liz Cheney, says there is nothing left of the convention.”

glorifying Putin

This is reflected, among other things, in the rhetoric that can be heard. For example, Biden is “ridiculed”, “Putin is glorified” and “anti-democratic” voices are heard. “It shows how the conference has changed,” says Means.

The latest polls again show Trump still scoring high. About 40 percent of Republicans say they would vote for him if there were an election today. 30 percent would vote for Ron DeSantis.”
