Carlisle Group in talks to take over United

The Carlyle Group is one of the largest private equity firms in the world. Finnish businessman Thomas Ziliakos dropped out last week as a potential buyer for Manchester United.

The founder and chairman of Mobile FutureWorks made an offer last month to the English football club to coach Erik ten Hag. Zilliacus wanted to take over ManUnited with the backing of the fans and give them a say in the decision-making process, but has pulled out now that the club’s current owners – the American Glazer family – have opened a third round of bidding.

Manchester United has been owned by the Glazer family since 2005. Supporters have been calling for the departure of the American family for some time, which, according to part of the rule, will pursue the wrong policy. The Glazer family responded at the end of last year. Then they announced that they were considering selling.

Soon, British billionaire Ratcliffe and his company Ineos came forward as a candidate buyer, followed by a consortium from Qatar led by Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani. Both of them have already done two shows.
