These are the staff of the Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology at the AMC site. It remains unclear if four other infected nurses have contracted with the British variant. The hospital said that no patients in that department had the mutation.

Earlier on Thursday, Public Health Minister Hugo de Jonge announced that 15 cases of the mutation have now been detected in the Netherlands. Five of these were set up in Amsterdam. It is unclear whether nurses are included in this.

The variant debuted in the UK in mid-December. Experts believe the mutation is not more dangerous but more contagious. Since many Dutch cases have not recently been in the UK, it appears that the alternative is already circulating in the Netherlands.
