In the programme, young pregnant mothers are supported by well-known mothers during the arrival of their baby. For example, Bobbi stands by Aldinya and organizes a baby shower for her. “She can enjoy becoming a mother in a festive way,” says Bobbi.
But it doesn’t stop there. Shortly after Aldeña’s birth, Bobbi visits the new mother again. Aldeña can’t stop talking about her future in the police. However, she is hesitant and might consider working as a school teacher. “Before I got pregnant, I wanted to check with the police. But now that I’ve given birth to Jayden, I’m starting to have doubts.”
She is concerned that her job as a police officer means she is often away from home and working irregular shifts. To get more clarity on this matter, Poppy takes her to meet police officer Eva. Once in the police car, Aldeña has the opportunity to question Eva.
Eva has been working in the police for eighteen years and has two children. It took some getting used to at first, she said during the tour. “I remember writing my first ticket and I couldn’t read my handwriting. I was so nervous.” She also teaches Aldeña how to handcuff Bobby and reassures her about assignment schedules. “You can schedule a day when you can’t work at all. Once you’ve completed the training, you don’t have to work full-time right away.”
This gives the young mother “more motivation.” After the meeting, Aldinya is brought home, where Eva meets baby Jaiden. “I hope to welcome you as a colleague some day.” Aldeña will begin her police training in August 2024. She made the announcement in a video message.
