Cattle farmer Colin Devereux shared his story ABC Australia. While inspecting the fences at the Venice River in the north of the country, he stopped at low water levels in a wetland area. “I took two steps into the water and suddenly that bastard bit my right foot. He shook me like a doll and pulled me into the water.”
Teeth in crocodile
Devereaux, a man in his 60s, says he kicked the predator in the ribs with his free foot. The crocodile was unmoved, but let go when the intended victim gave him a taste of his own medicine. “I ended up in a completely awkward position, but I managed to sink my teeth into his eyelid. It was very thick, like leather, but I grabbed it and pulled and then he let go.”
Then he ran to his car. He chased the crocodile for a while, but gave up after a few meters. The farmer stopped the bleeding with a towel and a piece of rope.
Devereaux, who was somewhat seriously injured, said the entire attack was over “in about eight seconds.” “The foot and leg were completely open. It took days to flush out all the bad bacteria. The water is dirty with goose and duck droppings, and the alligator bite is full of bacteria.”
Eyes opened
Devereaux had to undergo a skin transplant and has now regained feeling in his toes. However, he realized that he had to change his life. “If he had bitten me somewhere else, things would have gone very differently. I’ve been in this swamp long enough to mend fences. It opened my eyes.”
According to the Australian, the crocodile that attacked him has now been “removed”.
