The general practitioners’ association Domus Medica said Covid-19 vaccinations would take place in September and October.
“This means that, just as last year, there is a short overlap with the recommended influenza vaccination period (October-November). Simultaneous administration of both vaccines is therefore possible, preferably between October 15 and 31.”
The fall vaccination is targeted at people aged 65 years or older, people who live in a healthcare facility for a long period of time, people who have or live with an immune disorder, people who work in the healthcare sector, people who are obese (BMI ≥ 40) and people with underlying health problems such as lung, heart, liver or kidney disease, and conditions such as type 1 and 2 diabetes and neuromuscular diseases.
Pregnant women
“There will be no general recommendation for COVID-19 vaccination this year for pregnant women. Vaccination may be appropriate for some pregnant women at increased risk.”
What vaccine is used?
The vaccine to be used in Flanders is Comirnaty JN.1 from Pfizer/BioNTech. It has been recommended by the European Medicines Agency.
