This is why Prince William doesn't wear his wedding ring
Millions of viewers around the world held their breath when Prince William placed a custom-made wedding ring on his wife Catherine's finger during their wedding in 2011. So it came as a huge surprise when it turned out that Prince William did not receive a wedding ring. To this day he doesn't wear a wedding ring, but why not?
Conscious choice
Although it is traditional for the bride and groom to give each other a ring as a sign of their eternal commitment, Prince William consciously chose not to wear one. The reason for this is simple, according to a royal aide in the British court. He suggests that the conscious choice has to do with the personal preference of Prince William, who simply does not like to wear jewellery. A month before the wedding in 2011, the British court declared that William would not receive a ring if he and the bride exchanged vows at Westminster Abbey.
In my footsteps
Prince William's conscious choice not to wear a wedding ring is nothing new. He is following the example of his late grandfather, Prince Philip, and his uncle, Prince Andrew, who also chose not to wear a wedding ring.
Princes Harry and Meghan
While Prince William chose not to wear a wedding ring, Prince Harry chose to take a more modern approach. He and his wife, Meghan, presented rings to each other at their wedding in 2018. Both were made by Cleave and Company, the official royal jewelers who also made Meghan's engagement ring, which features a central diamond from Botswana surrounded by two diamonds from Diana's collection. While Meghan's ring is made of Welsh gold, Harry's is made of platinum with an ornate finish.
