Karen fell into a black hole and was unable to clean it out.
Martin
Martin's things are still all over the house and it's very emotional for Karen to clean them out. Presenter Victor Brand sits across from her at the dining table. Karen is doing better. “There is an upward trend this year,” she says with a laugh. “I am very happy with that.” It has been very difficult in recent years. “I was terminally pregnant with Maartje and I had Beau here, and in December we had to go; ‘He won’t get better,’” she says of her husband. Maartje comes to ask if she can watch the movie “Elza.”
“Of course you have this all day,” Victor says. Karen agrees and looks at the messy living room. “You're getting nowhere. Either you're playing or I'm in the kitchen. It's not possible to clean everything.” Martin died just a month later when Karen had to give birth to Maartje. “It was weird, it was really difficult.”

The house now makes her feel stuffy and cramped. “It makes me nervous, because I know how much I still have to do and because I know that Martin's things are no longer there.” Karen finds this very difficult. “The idea of taking someone's stuff out of that closet feels like you're throwing someone away,” she says with tears in her eyes. “And you don't want that.” She wants a nice place for him in the living room.
