The discovery was made in the Çatalhöyük area in Konya Province, southern Türkiye. Archaeologists from Necmettin Erbakan University Remnants of wheat, barley and green peas were also found. The finds were next to what was once a kiln.
Archaeologists discovered that the leavened bread found had not yet been baked. It was possible to press the center of the bread with your finger. “There is no similar example of something like this yet,” archaeologist Ali Umut Turkkan said.
Professor Oguz Dogan describes the bread found as “an exciting discovery for Turkey and the rest of the world.” Because the items were covered with a layer of clay, among other things, they were preserved for thousands of years.
Houses in Çatalhöyük were built very early. The area is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. Remains of houses, murals and sculptures have been found there before.
