Former radio DJ and presenter Jan van Veen has died at the age of 79. His family confirmed this to the news agency on Sunday evening Afghan National Police. He died after a short illness.
Van Veen is best known as a radio show host Candles Light. In it, he read love poems to listeners in his distinctive deep voice.
The presenter and DJ began his radio career on September 1, 1964 aboard the Veronica Marine Radio Station, where he later also became the program captain. He presented programs such as: Golden disco, Hits from the sea And the Top 40.
A joke that got out of control in which Van Veen read love poems on the radio led to listeners' pockets full of poems, and then the program Candles Light Originated. This would eventually become one of the longest running programs on Dutch radio.
After Radio Veronica was Candles Light She can be heard on various stations, such as Radio 3, Sky Radio and 100% NL. In 2019, Van Veen returned briefly with the program on NPO Radio 5. He stopped after a month due to a difference of opinion over the program's content.
