“We haven't celebrated Christmas together for a few years, and this year we decided it would be nice to get together again: my mom, my brother, my sister-in-law and the kids. We decided to do it at my house. Since I didn't feel like spending days in the kitchen, the idea was to create a A walking buffet, where everyone brings something. My brother suggested it and I thought it was a great idea. It saves me a lot of trouble and we have all kinds of different dishes.
Continuing buffet plans
“Three weeks before Christmas, I asked what we would make. I suggested that we bring snacks, wine and drinks and also serve tenderloin, potato croquettes and a piece of roulade. My mother suggested making some desserts for coffee, and my son had some side dishes. After that he was quiet. To my surprise, I did not I have received no response from my brother, sister-in-law and their two children.
After the reminder and two weeks of waiting, I started to worry. Did they forget? Or were they just not interested? I decided to ask again, this time directly to my sister-in-law. After all, it was almost Christmas.
The silence before the storm
“What started as a simple question quickly turned into a big argument. My sister-in-law responded sharply that she was busy and that I shouldn't complain so much. I didn't understand her reaction. We just agreed on this, didn't we? Besides, it was almost Christmas. One thing to another, and before I knew it, we were getting into a heated argument and I was wondering if we should still celebrate Christmas together.
Finally my brother called to tell me it would be okay and that they would bring something with them too. Was that very difficult? I never spoke to my sister-in-law again and decided it was best to leave it as it was. Anyway, I approached Christmas Day reluctantly.
'Merry Christmas
“The atmosphere was tense, and even though the buffet had finally arrived, it was hard to find joy. I tried to make up for it, but my sister-in-law stayed away. Even when we were playing games, she would rather sit on the couch with a full glass of wine. “It was the most awkward Christmas I've ever had. That's why I prefer to celebrate Christmas with my family from now on. It saves a lot of hassle and hassle.”
