Closed petrol stations lead to British hoarding | Economy
Several BP and Esso petrol stations in the UK have closed due to their fuel supply being halted due to a shortage of truck drivers. British motorists are worried about running out of fuel, causing long queues at other petrol stations, Shell said on Friday.
The energy group says it is adjusting its supply schedule to meet this increased demand. Shell has nearly a thousand pumping stations in the UK. According to the news agency Reuters Some Shell stations also ran out of fuel.
BP says there are shortages of some types of fuel at at least fifty of its more than 1,200 British stations. Some branches are completely closed. The company is busy supplying additional fuel at gas stations visited by many customers, as well as locations along highways or major traffic intersections. There are also problems with some Esso stations.
British politicians have now declared that there is enough fuel for everyone. Transport Secretary Grant Shapps said the government would intervene if necessary BBC.
