Debab broke into Pelosi’s home in San Francisco last October. Democrat Nancy Pelosi has long been one of the most powerful politicians in the United States. The attacker actually planned to kidnap the then Speaker of the House of Representatives and, as he put it, “break her knees.”
The neighbors heard him screaming: Where is Nancy, where is Nancy? She was in Washington that night, and instead the intruder found Pelosi’s husband, Paul, 83. When police officers arrived, they found two men struggling over a hammer, which Debab then used to hit Pelosi in the head.
Pelosi suffered a fractured skull and two wounds to her head. He has not yet fully recovered and has plates and screws in his skull.
Conspiracy theory
In recent years, DePape has shared numerous far-right conspiracy theories on internet forums, mostly QAnon theories. Before the robbery, he said of Nancy Pelosi that she “lied to the American people.” He stated during the trial that the media was distorting the truth about former President Donald Trump. He has said he regrets the attack on Paul Pelosi.
As Speaker of the House, Pelosi has often spoken out against Trump and his administration. During the storming of the Capitol on January 6, 2021, Trump supporters, among others, were searching for her. She and then-Vice President Mike Pence were the first to be taken to safety that day. A hacker managed to steal a laptop from Pelosi.
The jury in Dibab’s trial found him guilty on Thursday of assault and attempted kidnapping of a family member of a direct government official. He will be heard on December 13 when the judge will deliver his ruling.
