Israel and the United States claim to have indications of the presence of Hamas
Al Jazeera News reported earlier that the Hamas-controlled Palestinian Ministry of Health had been informed by the Israeli army of the upcoming operation. According to Israel, Hamas’ command center is located under Al-Shifa Hospital. The United States repeated the claim on Tuesday, saying it was based on information from its security services.
A ministry spokesman says that hospital workers have nothing to hide.
Hamas says Israel used the US statement as a “green light” for its military operation in the hospital. Hamas told Reuters, “We hold the occupation forces and US President Joe Biden fully responsible for the attack on Al-Shifa Hospital.”
The United Nations estimates that at least 2,300 patients, staff and displaced civilians are stranded in the hospital, the largest in the besieged Gaza Strip. They were unable to flee due to the fierce fighting.
