Mountain bike | The 2024 World Championship calendar revealed with opening weekend in Brazil
Warner Bros. Together Discovery (WBD) and the UCI present the 2024 UCI Mountain Bike World Championships calendar. All the major races are combined into one calendar that takes us from Europe to North and South America in 15 races. This year there are also six brand new locations in the program.
The World Championships calendar for cross country (XCO), short track (XCC), downhill (DHI) and enduro (EDR) begins on Friday 12 April. Next, riders will tour for the weekend in Mairipura, a municipality in the Brazilian state of São Paulo.
New sites
The opening weekend in Brazil – along with the other Brazilian race in Araxa – are new to the calendar. Bielsko-Biala in Poland, Crans-Montana and Billwald (Switzerland) and Van Hoevenberg-Lake Placid in the United States are also hosting for the first time.
“New major sites have been added, not only in Europe, but also in North and South America,” says UCI President David Lappartient. “This proves the popularity of this sport. Mountain biking is developing at the international level and the UCI Cycling World Championships are undoubtedly an important element in this process.”
WBD Cooperation
The UCI World Championships in 2024 marks the second year of the unique partnership between the UCI and WBD. Chris Ball – WBD’s Deputy Director of Cycling – is more than satisfied with the developments. “Having started this in 2023, I’m proud to see the new featured sites on the calendar next year.”
“The expansion into South America and long-term agreements with Lake Placid, Trentino and Haute-Savoie are the hallmarks of a season that will offer even more than last year.”
