Bas van der Schoot wins Inquispot Award for Best Political Illustration | Book and culture
Bas van der Schoot will be showing his cartoon on Tuesday Extinction Revolution Won Inktspot award. The artist won the Best Cartoon Award for the third time.
It is a drawing of a polar bear sitting on a small piece of ice. He has a tube of glue in one paw and his other paw is stuck to the ice floe. The publication, in reference to protest actions by climate activists, was published on October 28 in Volkskrant.
“The drawing is simple, fresh in colour, and deceptively playful, like an image from a children’s book,” the jury says. “The feeling of helplessness in the fight against climate change is portrayed in an authentic way.”
This year’s jury consists of presenter Evelyn van Rijswijk, painter Philip Hopman, photographer and editor-in-chief of HUMAN magazine Ahmet Polat, art historian Harriet Strömberg and screenwriter and director Nick Barendsen.
The award was presented at the Nieuwspoort press center in The Hague. Last year Jeb van den Toorn won the Intakespot award.
