Akwasi has been involved with social issues related to racism and slavery in the past and in 2020 he founded Omroep ZWART. That year he made a statement about Zwarte Piet during an anti-racism demonstration by Black Lives Matter, which received many reactions.
The 35-year-old artist will also perform on Saturday during the celebration of Ketikoti in Amsterdam’s Museumplein.
The lecture draws attention to the distinction
The Anton de Koum Lecture is an initiative of the Museum of Resistance and a daily newspaper devotion. The lecture draws attention to combating intolerance and discrimination, and to the history and position of minorities in the Netherlands.
Previous speakers have included President of Suriname Chan Santokhi, writer Abdelkader Benali, comedian Freik de Jonge and politician Frank Werwind.
