The Japanese military ordered the destruction of any North Korean missile, including any satellite outside
The Japanese Minister of Defense ordered his army to destroy any North Korean missile that entered or headed towards Japanese territory. He was responding to an announcement from Pyongyang on Monday that North Korea would launch a satellite in the next two weeks.
Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida said earlier on Monday that North Korea’s launch of any missile “even if it was launched by a satellite” violates a UN Security Council resolution. The Japanese believed that it was actually a disguised ballistic missile launch. On Monday, the Prime Minister’s Office spoke of “North Korea’s announcement of the launch of a ballistic missile, which it described as a satellite.”
Japan’s cabinet announced via Twitter that, along with the United States, South Korea and other countries, North Korea would be urged to abandon the launch. Kishida urged relevant ministries and agencies to cooperate and gather intelligence and called for vigilance. The launch is scheduled between May 31 and June 11, according to Pyongyang.
Pyongyang has increased the number of missile launches further in recent months. Some of these launches triggered the alarm system in Japan.
