At Star Wars Celebration, Lucasfilm announced a new movie that will take place after the sequel trilogy. The movie will focus on restoring the Jedi Order. For example, the movie has a fairly obvious (working) title called Star Wars: New Jedi Order.
A new era for Star Wars
The movie takes place 15 years after Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker. This is an era that is still unknown to the masses. For example, Kathleen Kennedy has confirmed that Daisy Ridley will reprise the role of Ray Skywalker and continue the story.
The story follows Rey on an adventure to restore the Jedi Order. For example, you’ll draw on the lessons of Luke Skywalker (played by Mark Hamill) and the sacred texts of the Jedi.
sequel or single?
New Jedi Order will Episode nine follow-up, but Kennedy still described the film as singular. However, that doesn’t mean there won’t be any tie-ins to the previous films. For example, she said the movie probably wouldn’t have flashbacks or the power of ghosts. You want to focus on the story.
Kennedy compares the idea of the film to The Mandalorian. She noted that the series also started as a standalone story. Later, more connections came to the rest of the franchise. This may also be the case for New Jedi Order.
alone
The conclusion we can draw from this is that the movie is basically standalone, but there are some references to the past, for example, Rey.
