Skating history in Sweden: Mikaela Shiffrin now holds the World Cup record alone | other sports
with videoAmerican figure skater Mikaela Shifrin now holds the record for World Cup competitions won alone. She also won the slalom in Sweden, securing her 87th World Cup win.
The 27-year-old Shiffrin was already the best in giant slalom yesterday, equaling the record of Swedish skiing legend Ingmar Stenmark, who has 86 World Cup victories.
“It’s very difficult to understand,” Shiffrin said after passing Stenmark. ,, It feels great to start the second round as a captain. You have to be a little sensible, but I also wanted to be quick. You have to skate the second round like it’s on its own and that’s exactly what I did, great.”
The script continues after Michaela Schifrin’s record recording
Shiffrin kept Swiss Wendy Holdner behind by nearly a second in R: 0.92. The third place was taken by the Swedish Anna Swen Larsson.
Record holder Shiffrin booked her first World Cup win in Ur in over a decade, as a teenager. Schwerin broke the women’s record in January. That was with 82 victories in the name of compatriot Lindsey Vonn.
