Basketball player Mitchell scores 71 points. Highest score in the NBA since 2006

Donovan Mitchell of the Cleveland Cavaliers hit one of the highest scores in American basketball history in an NBA game against the Chicago Bulls. With 71 points, he has the highest score since 2006, when Kobe Bryant was responsible for 81 points.

The 26-year-old American got longer than usual to score on a personal beast level. After regular time, it was 130-130, after which the Cavaliers took the win 145-134. Mitchell added 13 more points in overtime.

“I am speechless,” said Mitchell after the game. “Especially because I did it when we came back and won. It’s mostly about how we win. It’s crazy.”

The NBA game record dates back to 1962, when Wilt Chamberlain scored 100 points for the Philadelphia Warriors against the New York Knicks.

Chamberlain was playing in the NBA in the ’60s anyway. His name appears at least five times in the top 10 highest scores in a single match.

“It’s very humbling to get into the record books with guys like Wilt,” Mitchell said. “I feel lucky to be in the company of these greats.”

According to Cleveland coach JB Bickerstaff, Mitchell made a difference on every offense. “We had one of the greatest achievements in the history of the sport tonight.”

When asked if he had ever come close to that score in a lower league, Mitchell replied that he had only been able to achieve it in a video game. “In NBA2K, I think I had a game like that once, but then I didn’t shoot efficiently. I also lost the game, so I felt a lot better.”
