Talon Grapes is definitely not participating in the ABN Amro Open. The North Hollander has already indicated his desire to travel to South America during the tournaments in Rotterdam and the European indoor season.
“Right now it’s fifty-fifty. I’m still not entirely sure what I’ll do in February,” the Greek track said of the decision last month.
The tournament falls within a series of clay court tournaments currently held in South America. “I’m going to try something new, I’m very interested. I’ve never been there as a professional,” said Kriekspoor during the NK in Amstelveen on Friday.
The Greek track will participate in the ATP tournament in Buenos Aires during the APN Amro Open from 13 to 19 February. After that, matches in Rio de Janeiro and the Chilean capital Santiago are also on the agenda.
On February 4 and 5, the Greeks will make their first appearance in a Davis Cup encounter with Slovakia. The match will be played on an indoor hard court in Groningen. After that meeting, the Greek track will fly to South America, where he will first train on gravel for a week.
Greece’s track has dropped to 95th in the world rankings. So he would have needed a wild card to participate in Rotterdam.
Earlier this month, the Greek track broke up with coach Ramon Schlueter. He is yet to appoint a new coach. “There are some talks going on, I want to work with some coaches, but nothing is finalized yet.”
On Saturday, the Greek track will compete against Robin Haas in the semi-finals of NK.
