The Echo Awards for Diversity and Inclusion are awarded to outstanding students | news item

The ECHO Award is an initiative of the ECHO, Center of Expertise for Diversity Policy, and celebrated its 22nd anniversary this year.^Street Version. The ECHO Award provides a platform for students with a non-Western background who are trying to contribute to a more inclusive society.

ECHO Award Winners

This year, 35 candidates have been nominated by universities of applied sciences and universities across the Netherlands. An independent jury with representatives from education and business selected 15 finalists. Four of them were declared winners. They distinguish themselves for their innovation in thinking and action, organizational ability, contribution to social impact and their role as a “critical friend”. This means that the student knows how to formulate constructive criticism around issues related to exclusion and also thinks of constructive solutions.

HBO ECHO Award Winner

Nazneen Musa Business Economics for students at Hogeschool van Amsterdam.

Among other things, Nazneen puts (silent) poverty among young people on the agenda and takes care of young carers who study.

Wednesday ECHO Award Winner

Dina Bousbaa is a medical student at the Free University in Amsterdam.

Dina is also active in Diversion, where she collaborates with people from the Jewish community and the LGBTQ+ community.

Beta Technology Award Winner

Khaled Hajj Computer science student at Delft University of Technology.

Among other things, Khaled contributed to the design of the university-wide Student Diversity Survey.

Winner of the Loyens & Loeff Law & Tax Award

Parwana Rezaei – Student crisis management and security at Leiden University.

Parwana has run social media campaigns in the Netherlands to raise awareness about the situation of Afghan refugees. She is also a board member of the Girl Up movement in Afghanistan.

The ECHO Award is an initiative that recognizes the importance of investing in and recognizing outstanding talent from the community. Presentation of the ECHO Award is made possible by colleges and universities that nominate their non-western talents from various faculties. The ECHO Award is a public-private initiative and has been realized by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science, Loyens & Loeff, Dutch Railways and Boston Consulting Group.
