Twitter has made the tweet editor available to more people. Users in the US who pay monthly for Twitter Blue will have the option to edit their messages after posting, the social media company reports. Pay subscribers in Canada, New Zealand, and Australia also got this option a few days ago.

Twitter announced last month that it was testing the editing functionality with a select group. The ability to edit posts after posting will reduce stress on Twitter. Thanks to the function, typos or unfortunate wordings can be corrected within half an hour after posting a tweet. Custom messages can be recognized by a special code. It also mentions when it was modified.

Both internally and externally, supporters and opponents have been debating the possibility of tweets being edited then for years. Opponents argue that the feature may contribute to the spread of misinformation or hate speech.

Former CEO Jack Dorsey described it as highly unlikely in 2020 that such a position would ever come. Tesla chief Elon Musk, who wants to buy Twitter, polled a large following of his Twitter account if there was any enthusiasm for editing the posted tweets. The vast majority were in favor.
