Marit Baumeister, 34, returns to competition in the water after her pregnancy. She will be sailing the World Cup in America next month.
Baumeister of Varten, who has lived in The Hague for years, gave birth to daughter Jesse May just over four months ago. She had previously announced her desire to continue her career and qualify for the Olympic Games in Paris.
Bouwmeester has competed in the Games three times since 2012, taking silver, gold and bronze medals in the Laser Radial class, now called ILCA-6.
The four-time world champion (last time in 2020) returns to aquatic competition after three months of training. She will sail the World Cup from October 11-16. It will be held in the coastal city of Keema, Texas. Bouwmeester softens expectations: If the wind blows too hard I’ll have a hard time. I especially want to know where I stand compared to my competitors and what I need to work on in the coming period. I’m still very ambitious.”
The Dutch team consists of four sailors. In addition to Bouwmeester and Maxime Jonker, these are Mirthe Akkerman from Akkrum and Marissa IJben (19) from Joure. Watersportverbond aims to bring this quad train together even games. Along the way, results in the major regattas determine who gets the only Olympic ticket.
