Tiger Woods has turned down an offer ranging from $700 million to $800 million ($684-781 million) to join the LIV Golf Invitational Series. The director of the lucrative series of tournaments funded by investors from Saudi Arabia, Greg Norman, told Fox News.
Norman said the offer was made to Woods before he himself was named CEO of the tournament. This amount was mentioned before I became CEO. Of course you should look for the best. The amount is somewhere in those areas (700 to 800 million).”
Many big names from professional golf have joined the series of lucrative tournaments. They include Phil Mickelson, Dustin Johnson and Bryson DeChambeau, but Woods, the 15-time main winner, has remained loyal to the PGA Tour.
The former American No. 1 in the world said before the British Open last month that he did not agree with golfers’ decision to join the LIV series. Woods compared the high-fee competition series to the Seniors Champions Tour, intended for golfers over 50.
