Tim van Rijthoven struggled with back pain and lost the tournament in the US
Tim van Rijthoven had to give up in the second round of the Challenger tournament in the American city of Indianapolis. Roosendahl was leading the tennis player in the match against American Ben Shelton, but was unable to continue due to back pain.
Van Rijthoven took the first set in a tiebreak. In the second set, the 25-year-old Roosenthaler led 2-1 before retiring.
The tennis player had a successful grass season. He won the Rosmallen grass tournament and reached the fourth round at Wimbledon. In this, he went up against Novak Djokovic, the Serbian player who later beat him.
World ranking
Van Rijthoven lost in the first round to American Mitchell Kruger in Newport last week. In last Monday’s world rankings, van Rijthoven is ranked 101st.
The Challenger Tournament is an international men’s tennis tournament organized by the ATP. Tournaments are designed for players to earn enough points to compete at a higher level. The more points you score in these competitions, the easier it is to enter higher tier competitions.
