The Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic Remake has reportedly been delayed indefinitely. Aspyr will have problems internally and won’t be able to meet its 2022 release target date. The studio hasn’t officially announced anything yet.
A remake of the 2003 RPG game is in development at the Aspyr Media studio in Texas, where According to Bloomberg sources, internal problems. The game has been in development for three years and was released as a demo at the end of June as well vertical slice, shown on Lucasfilm and Sony. The staff was later told that the demo did not match the studio’s wishes. A week later, design director Brad Prince and art director Jason Minor were suddenly fired, according to sources.
Aspyr employees could have been given the impression that game development was in full swing, but later it turned out that a disproportionate part of the budget had been invested in the demo and that the development process in its current form was not sustainable. Aspyr has promised listed employees and partners that Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic Remake will still release in 2022. According to the company’s anonymous developers, the goal for a realistic release is as early as 2025.
Currently, development for Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic Remake is on hold, while Aspyr is looking into “new contracts and development opportunities,” according to the sources. One such option is the involvement of Saber Interactive, another American studio of the same parent company, Embracer Group. Saber Interactive has only helped with the project so far, but will likely do a full re-production.
