Paul expects stiff competition: McLaughlin starts season strong | Currently

Sidney McLaughlin immediately made a huge impression in her first game of the athletics season. American competitor Fimc Ball ran for the third time ever in the 400-meter hurdles in Nashville.

McLaughlin, 22, set the highest time at 51.61 seconds on the Vanderbilt University track and field. This made her only fifteen hundredths slower than the world record by which she became a first-time Olympic champion in Tokyo last year (51.46).

Dalilah Muhammad rushed for the second time ever in that Olympic final in the Japanese capital (51.58). Paul took the bronze in a Dutch record of 52.03. This is now the fifth fastest time ever.

According to Bols coach Laurent Meuwly, McLaughlin’s time in Nashville wouldn’t be valid, because two hitches weren’t in place. Moyle wrote: “Bells 5 and 6 were not positioned correctly. Had it not been for these wrongly placed obstacles, they would have broken the world record.” Twitter

McLaughlin will be one of Paul’s main competitors at the World Championships in Athletics in Eugene (July 15-24) next month. The athlete from New Jersey came second in the 400 hurdles three years ago at the previous World Cup, behind Muhammad.

The 22-year-old will make her first match of the year over the 400m hurdles at the FBK Games in Hengelo on Monday. Last week, the Dutch proved that she is in great shape by setting a world record in the 300m hurdles, a distance rarely held.

Fifth Coaster in the 3000m in Rabat

Several top international athletes were in Rabat on Sunday for a Diamond League match. Maureen Koster was the only Dutch participant in Morocco. She finished fifth in the 3000m with a personal best of 8.42.28. The victory went to Mercy Chirono of Kenya with a time of 8.40.29 seconds. Koster had already qualified for the World Cup in Eugene and the European Championships in Munich last month in the 5000 metres.

Elaine Thompson-Herrah won the 100m. The Olympic champion from Jamaica ran with a time of 10.83 seconds, ahead of Ivorian Marie-José Ta Lo (11.04) and her compatriot Natasha Morrison (11.22).

Karsten Warholm gave up hitting the 400m hurdles. The Norwegian Olympic champion and world record holder stopped his race after the first hurdle and tightened his thigh. American Khalifa Rosser won with a time of 48.25 seconds.
