The moon has been volcanic activity longer than science thought
Samples brought to our planet by a Chinese probe showed that the moon has had volcanic activity for a longer time than previously thought, according to a study published in the journal. temper nature Published study.
Last year, Beijing launched a space mission not seen in four decades: the Chang’e-5 rocket had to bring samples from our natural satellite back to Earth. The probe also had to develop technologies for a Chinese manned mission to the Moon by 2030.
According to the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the rocks found included basalt – a type of cooled lava – two billion years ago. And it seemed at a press conference that the analyzes “show that the orb is still developing.”
So far, scientists believe that volcanic activity on the Moon dates back to 2.8 billion years ago. But researchers lacked knowledge of the following periods in the history of celestial bodies.
