Wimbledon released its seedings for the Gentlemen’s and Ladies’ Singles Championships for 2015, in a year that saw the historic tennis tournament sing largely from the same hymn sheet as the official ATP and WTA Rankings.
The women’s seedings lined up exactly as they were ranked by the WTA up until last week, with the Men’s Singles following ATP Rankings scripts for the best part. The most notable development saw Canada’s Milos Raonic rewarded for his semi-final efforts at SW 19 last year and go one above David Ferrer of Spain, slotting into 7th, with the Spaniard becoming the 8th seed.
Wimbledon seedings vary slightly from the official rankings since greater emphasis is placed on grass court performances. Given the extremely brief grass court season, Wimbledon feels their algorithm is a more reliable, fairer way of allocating seeds at the tournament.
Australia’s Lleyton Hewitt was awarded a wildcard on his final visit to the tournament he won in 2001. The draw takes place on Friday morning.
