Nick Kyrgios’ Australian Open campaign came to an end on Sunday, but the local favourite lost few admirers in a four-set defeat to third seed Grigor Dimitrov, who won three tie-breaks to clinch a quarter-final berth.

Elsewhere, Rafael Nadal needed four sets to get past Diego Schartzman, sixth seed Marin Cilic outlasted 10th seed Pablo Carreno Busta with three tie-break wins in a four-setter, and Kyle Edmund downed Andreas Seppi in yet another four-set match.

On the women’s side of the draw, top-four seeds Caroline Wozniacki and Elina Svitolina progressed with dominant straight-sets wins, and Elise Mertens’ charge continued with a 7-6(5), 7-5 win over Petra Martic.

Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic, Dominic Thiem and Simona Halep are all in fourth-round action on Monday.
