Vans US Open called on for Women’s Rd1

HUNTINGTON BEACH, CA, USA: The Vans US Open of Surfing, stop No. 6 of 10 on the 2014 Samsung Galaxy ASP Women’s World Championship Tour, begins today at Huntington Beach. Round 1 gets underway at 10:30 a.m. local time (PDT).


Carissa Moore (HAW), current ASP World No. 1 and defending event winner, will lead the field of the world’s best female surfers as she attempts to strengthen her ratings lead and defend her title of ASP Women’s World Champion.

Courtney Conlogue (USA) has withdrawn from the competition due to an ankle injury sustained earlier this year at the Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach. Replacement surfer Tatiana Weston-Webb (HAW) will compete in her place. The event wildcard has been awarded to former ASP World Junior Champion Leila Hurst (HAW).

Heat 2: Tyler Wright (AUS), Laura Enever (AUS), Paige Hareb (NZL)

Heat 4: Sally Fitzgibbons (AUS), Alessa Quizon (HAW), Tatiana Weston-Webb (HAW)

Heat 5: Stephanie Gilmore (AUS), Coco Ho (HAW), Alana Blanchard (HAW)

Heat 6: Bianca Buitendag (ZAF), Lakey Peterson (USA), Nikki Van Dijk (AUS)
