TEAHUPO’O, Tahiti: Small surf prevailed this morning at the Billabong Pro Tahiti, Stop No. 7 of 11 on the 2014 Samsung Galaxy ASP World Championship Tour, prompting event organizers to place the event on standby while a series of storms aims to send significant swell to the region over the coming days.
“Clean conditions this morning but smaller surf than yesterday and we’ve placed the event on standby until tomorrow morning,” Kieren Perrow, ASP Commissioner, said. “We’re anticipating a bump in size over the next 24 hours with the swell filling in significantly tomorrow afternoon. We’ll be back in the morning to reassess conditions and make another call at that time.”
Surfline, official surf forecasters for the Billabong Pro Tahiti, are confidently predicting excellent conditions in the days ahead and have called for:
Small scale SSW swell leftovers prevail this morning with a modest new bump of SW swell pulsing up in the afternoon. New SW swell will begin building over Sunday afternoon and peaks Monday with very solid surf. Another strong SW swell is on track for Wed/Thur, with more strong swells for the finals few days of the waiting period.
Event organizers will reconvene at 7.30 a.m. on Sunday, August 17 to make the next call.
