Each week there are countless sporting videos, photos, GIFs, memes, highlights and lowlights that make you laugh and cry; it can be difficult to catch them all. My job is to bring you some of the more entertaining, past and present, sporting moments that I’ve stumbled across in the last week. Enjoy.
Mick Fanning – Two Waves To Secure A Third World Title
Our website and social media platforms have been chock full of content on Mick Fanning and the Billabong Pipeline Masters recently; but Mick deservers top honours on the scoop this week. If you’ve been living under a rock, early this week Mick Fanning won his third World Title. That itself is worthy of a mention, but it was the way in which he secured victory that was truly impressive. Firstly in the final two minutes of his round 5 heat against CJ Hobgood, Mick needed an 8.0 to take the lead and secure victory or his dreams of a third title were over, he got 9.5:
Mick wasn’t finished there. His next heat was against Australia’s Yadin Nicol. This biggest heat of his life, win and take home the 2013 World Championship; lose and he leaves the door open for Kelly Slater to win his 12th World Title. Kelly needed a first place at Pipline for his chances to remain alive; he managed that result for the seventh time in his career. Again Mick had his back against the wall as he was battling the clock. But this time Fanning’s task was much more difficult, needing a 9.57 to take out the heat and secure his third Championship. He absolutely nailed it.
Luis Suarez – Little Girls Snubs
If you read the scoop each week you’d know that Suarez has appeared on countless occasions as the Dickhead of the Week; also thanks for to those who manage to read up every week! In 2011 Suarez was fined £40,000 and banned for eight matches for using insulting and racist words towards Patrice Evra of Manchester United. Evra asked Suarez why he kicked him in a match, and he replied, “Because you are black”, Evra then said, “say it to me again, I’m going to punch you”. Suarez replied, “I don’t speak to blacks”. Evra obviously insulted, suggested that “Ok now I’m going to punch you”, Suarez comments to that were, “Ok blackie, blackie, blackie”, as he reached out to touch Erva’s arm to signal at his skin colour.
So yeah the guy is a piece of shit. Two months later after Suarez had returned from his suspension, Manchester United took on Liverpool, and Suarez did this at the tradition pre-game handshake.
Yep he’s properly scum of the earth, still doesn’t get it. This little girl in the clip below is not only an absolute legend, but she’s already more intelligent than Suarez will ever (Evra) be. If a person of her ages thinks you’re a complete dick, they’re often right.
George Bailey – World Record Over
During Day Four of the Third Ashes test, newcomer George Bailey smashed James Anderson for a World Record 28 runs in one over.
Joe Johnson – Drop 29 In Quarter
While we’re on the topic of outrageous explosions on the offensive end, scope out Joe Johnson as he had an NBA typing record of eight three pointers in a quarter when he dropped 29 points in the third versus the 76ers. Johnson finished the game with 37 points, going 10/14 from deep (which is an NBA season high from range).
Trent Boult – Catch Of The Season
This cracking one-handed catch to dismiss Denesh Ramdin from the West Indies is up there with the greatest of all time.
While we are here, lets take a look at Australian cricket’s top 24 classic catches. This is awesome.
Some Action From The NFL
Damian Lillard – Back-to-Back Game Winners
The Portland Trail Blazers have won the most games in the NBA at the moment going 10-2 at home and 12-3 on the road. A reason behind this is Damian Lillard; it’s only his second year in the league. After being named the Kia NBA Rookie Of The Year last season, he’s upped his game even more. This young, vibrant stud oozes swagger, and has the talent to back it up. This week Portland have been on a road trip, and on back-to-back games Lillard pulled off two epic game winners; what a badass dude!
Ronaldoinho – Still Getting It Done
This curling jewel came from the one and only Ronaldinho. The Atletico Minerio’s legend nailed this against Raja Casablanca during the Club World Cup.
All of us here at Commentary Box Sports would like to thank-you for all the support in 2013.
