We have finally made it. The Bowl games are in full swing and as the season reaches it final exhilarating week we look to the BCS Bowl games to end the season on a winning note. The Spartans actually did what many thought they could, but few expected, and took down Ohio State. This of course opened the door for the one loss Auburn Tigers who, on the back of the stronger schedule, will now start, surprisingly, as underdogs to the much-fancied Florida State Seminoles.
It has been an outstanding year of College Football, lets sit back and savor this last week and then look forward to the end of summer next year when we get to do it all again.
The big one to mess up the picks was the Oklahoma State v Oklahoma game. The Pokes were primed to take this one out at home but to the Sooners credit they were able to stifle QB Clint Chelf who just never got the offense up and going. They will be disappointed with that loss. The Spartans win also went against us – I can live with this one. All others were on track; the Tigers in a high scoring one against Mizzou and Stanford’s road effort was huge. This has sets up what promises to be a Rose Bowl to remember. We will see the Michigan State Spartans taking on regular attendees the Stanford Cardinal in what will be an excellent match up of defenses.
Every game is one to see – set your clocks and stock the fridge.
Where Are The Biscuits?
Stanford v Michigan State
If Stanford brings their A-game they will win by three touchdowns. That solid D line complemented by an underrated offense, the explosive Gaffney and the combination of Hogan and Montgomery, on its day, is one of the best in the BCS. Has Michigan State run their race with the emotional win over the Buckeyes? I think so. The Spartans will have to rely on its imposing defense to rattle the Cardinal cage and then hope its supreme running back Langford can capitalise. This won’t happen. Stanford -6.5.
UCF v Baylor
This looks like it’s going to go the way of a shoot out with both offenses able to score points behind their quarterbacks, Bortles and Petty. Bortles late season form has been impressive, however Petty has been impressive all season long and for a while had Baylor in National Championship range. Baylor will start slow after a month off but will ultimately be too good for the high achieving Knights. UCF +17.
Oklahoma v Alabama
The Sooners Blake Bell is another young QB to rise as the season progressed; his effort in getting the Sooners home against the Cowboys was fantastic. Taking on the Tide and AJ McCarron though is a different proposition all together. Look for Yeldon to have a huge game. Alabama in a blow out, just to prove they are still the best team in the country, -15.
Clemson v Ohio State
One of the more intriguing match-ups and provides the Buckeyes with a chance to restore some pride just as much as it allows the Tigers to claim a big scalp to end their season on a high. Whoever wins out of the Boyd/Watkins and Miller/Hyde battle will win the day. Will it be won through the air or on the ground? I’ll take Sammy Watkins any day. Clemson +2.5.
Florida State v Auburn
This is wide open. The dominance of the Noles in a weaker schedule against the consistency of Auburn in a strong schedule sees a match-up that history does not provide us with many clues. The difference is of course the Heisman Winner, Jameis Winston. If he is as good next Wednesday as he has been all year its hard to see FSU leaving California with a loss. Auburn will have to win this game because Famous Jameis certainly won’t lose it. The thing Auburn has on their side that this Tigers team is by far the greatest team the Noles will have seen this year, and that could take them by surprise. If FSU absorb the Marshall, Mason run combination it will take them a long way to capping an outstanding season with a National Championship Title. Coming off a horrible campaign last year and building to put the exclamation mark on their year with that massive last second play to take down Alabama to reach this game has them believing the unbelievable. I think they have one more big effort in them. Auburn +8.5.
The multi at $10 will return $250.
This bet still stands – roll anything you want into Jameis Winston winning The Heisman, Stanford winning The Rose Bowl, and then FSU taking out the National Championship. This will happen. Having said that Auburn at $3.50 is value.
Note: The preceding ramblings should be treated as such. Odds may change.
