‘The Black Pole’s’ devastating knockout

Knockouts don’t come much more emphatic than this one.

Izu Ugonoh, a Polish boxer of Nigerian descent, sent New Zealander Will ‘The Rock’ Quarrie flying through the ropes with a brutal right hand on the undercard to the Joseph Parker-Bowie Tupou heavyweight bout in Invercargill.

The unfortunate Quarrie suffered the further ignominy of his unconscious head ending up on the plate of a spectator who was eating his dinner at a ringside table situated bizarrely close to the action.

The imposing Ugonoh, who goes by the moniker ‘The Black Pole’, extended his unbeaten professional record to 13 wins – unsurprisingly, 10 of them coming by knockout.

Meanwhile, in the main event, top-ranked New Zealand heavyweight Parker stopped Australian Tupou 63 seconds into the first round, giving him a 15-0 professional record (13 by KO).
