NBL fan ejected for tipping beer on Kings’ Thornton

It’s not often that the NBL attracts worldwide attention, but an Illawarra Hawks supporter has gone viral after a moronic act during a televised game against the Sydney Kings in Wollongong.

Kings guard Marcus Thornton was fouled and sent sprawling over the baseline, before enduring the further indignity of a fan, sitting in a courtside corporate box, tipping a beer on his head.

An incredulous Thornton was stunned, while the offending fan pretended he’d done nothing – despite the horrified reaction of the woman accompanying him.

Ever-popular rugby league called Warren Smith, who doubles as an NBL commentator during the summer months, gave the ‘beer tipper’ an extended bake during the telecast.

To his credit, the aggrieved Thornton, the 45th overall pick in the 2015 NBA draft by the Boston Celtics, let security deal with the bizarre situation – which they did by ejecting the bearded muppet, who missed the Hawks completing a solid 96-90 win.
