The French basketball team found its groove in Rio, routing Venezuela to move into a tie with Australia in Group A in Rio. Tony Parker led the way with 14 points, 12 of which came in the first half. France had six players score in double figures, as they routed Venezuela by forty points, 96-56.

Across the bracket, things weren’t quite as rosy for the Yankees. They started hot, going up 23-5, but were given a massive scare by Serbia, who had a last second chance to tie the game at the buzzer. The United States survived by a final of 94-91, led by Kyrie Irving who had 15 points and four assists. The close call was the second in two games for the ‘Dream Team’, who are showing signs of vulnerability as the first round closes.

Team USA will meet France on Monday, as the field begins to gain confidence in their ability to stun the United States, and as the United States deals with the sudden feeling that the gold isn’t a given.
