BOOMERS & TEAM USA REMAIN ON FINAL COLLISION COURSE

Australia picked up another victory on the hardwood to close out pool play, finishing their Group A commitments an impressive 4-1.

The Boomers handled Venezuela 81-56 behind 22 points from Chris Goulding, as they sat Patty Mills and played Andrew Bogut and Matthew Dellavedova for limited minutes.  They clinched second in the group, and will wait to find out their quarterfinals opponent tomorrow.  They have, however, ensured that they will not see the US again until the final.

Team USA moved to undefeated at 5-0 to close out Group A, but it wasn’t pretty, edging France 100-97. Just as it’s been for the last two games, the United States again struggled to close, allowing the Tony Parker-less French side to keep it to single digits for most of the fourth quarter.

Klay Thompson and Kevin Durant led the way for Team USA, with Thompson going for 30 points on 7-for-13 from three, and Durant going for 17 on 6-for-6 shooting from the field.  The US has been shaky since their matchup with Australia, and looks far from the version of the US that we’ve become accustomed to seeing.
