The big transfer of the summer has already taken place with Jose Mourinho confirmed as Chelsea boss on Monday after parting company with Real Madrid following their last game of the season on Sunday. Mourinho’s second coming has elicited a flurry of gossip in West London about which players the Portuguese may like to take to Stamford Bridge. The rumour mill is not only rolling in West London though, with all sorts of rumours developing in the last few days.
Cristiano Ronaldo heading back to Old Trafford?
This is one that just won’t go away. Many of the British tabloids are reporting that the Portuguese superstar is heading back to red half of Manchester, with a reported £65m offer on the table. Quite why Madrid would sell an improved player for a £15m loss is unclear, so it seems unlikely that this one is a goer unless the price rises. The only thing that gives this one any legs is the fact that Ronaldo hasn’t signed a new deal, and if he wants to head back to United, he could force Real to sell him rather than lose him for nothing in 2 years time.
Evra to Monaco?
Moneybags Monaco are back in Ligue 1 and the rumours are abounding concerning the transfer fees and wages that they’re capable of doling out. Evra arrived in 2002 from Monaco, so the rumour is that the Frenchman is on his way back home with a reported 10m bid on the cards. Given the rumours concerning David Moyes bringing Leighton Baines to Old Trafford, Evra could be surplus to requirements at United and may well fancy some regular football in Monaco.
Dzeko to swap North for South
The Special One is in town, and lots of the news outlets are reporting that Mourinho wants to bring Man City striker Edin Dzeko to Chelsea. Mourinho has often built his teams around a strong and powerful centre forward and may be hoping to recreate a Didier Drogba effect with the 6ft 3 Bosnian striker. Man City are unlikely to want to sell to a Premier League rival though and their insistence at recouping most of the £27m they invested in him in 2011 may well scupper the deal.
Fernandinho to the Etihad
City have already been fairly prominent in the transfer market, with the deal to sign Spanish winger Jesús Navas agreed on Monday, and now it appears that City are looking to add to their ranks with the Shakhtar Donetsk playmaker Fernandinho. The transfer fee is likely to be between £30-£40 million, which would no doubt represent a significant chunk of City’s transfer budget; but it would certainly be a real statement of intent as City look to close the gulf that emerged between them and their Manchester rivals last season.
Will Rooney join the Gunners?
We reported Wayne Rooney’s desire to leave Man Utd on Commentary Box Sports a couple of weeks ago, and of course there are all sorts of rumours about where the Croxteth-born product may end up should he leave Old Trafford. This one may be a little fanciful, but a number of papers are reporting that Arsenal may look to swoop for the English striker. Quite how Rooney’s £250,000-a-week wages would fit into Arsene Wenger’s strict wage structure remains to be seen, but this would certainly be a real statement of intent from Arsenal and if the move went through it could well rejuvenate Rooney’s slightly stuttering career.
And some other rumours:
– Defoe + cash for Aston Villa’s Benteke
– Fiorentina’s Jovetic to Chelsea
– Chelsea’s Terry to Monaco
– Robben + cash for Suarez
– Arsenal’s Koscielny to Bayern Munich
